BRITISH TROOPS AT BASRA
MOVE ATTACKED BY MOSCOW PAPER
MOSCOW, August 19. The Moscow newspaper “New Times” refers to the dispatch of British troops to Basra as “the creation of a new centre of war in the Middle East.”
The “New Times” continues: “Notwithstanding all declarations and charters, Britain’s foreign policy continues to be determined by selfish interests which are pushing her towards further expansion and towards acts that endanger world peace.”
SOVIET TO RETURN PERSIAN SHIPS (Rec. 10 p.m.) TEHERAN, August 19. The Soviet Embassy in Teheran has informed the Persian Government that the Soviet Union is ready to return Persian ships used by Russia in the Caspian Sea during the war and has asked Persia to have the crews ready by August 30.
