NEW ENTRANCE TO SHOW GROUNDS
PROPOSAL REJECTED AS IMPRACTICABLE
FURTHER REPRESENTATIONS Further efforts will be made by the Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association to obtain an entrance to the showgrounds through the Addington trotting grounds from Matipo street. This decision was made at a meeting of the general committee of the association on Wednesday after the consideration of a letter from the Canterbury Park Trotting Club The letter stated that the grounds committee of the club had considered the question of an entrance from Matipo street, and after giving the matter careful thought and studying a plan submitted, it was found that the suggestion was impracticable. “I am at a loss why it should be impracticable,” said the secretary of the association (Mr M. E. Lyons). The proposal had been discussed several times by a joint committee, and the general feeling was in favour of the plan, he said. The proposed entrance was at the extreme north-east corner of the trotting ground, and only about 20 feet of land was required. Mr Lyons added that the objection to the plan might be because of some legal difficulty. “I hope we haven’t heard the last word yet.” said Mr R. T. McMillan. He considered that the plan was practicable, and suggested that the association make further efforts to obtain the necessary uermission. It was decided to refer the question to the association’s ground committee for further action.
