“FRISCO SAL”

A fast-moving story is told against the colourful background of the Barbary coast in Universal’s “Frisco Sal,” which is now showing at the St. James’ Theatre. The story opens when SaL played by Susanna Foster, arrives in San Francisco to trace her brother, who is believed to have been murdered. She gets a singing job in Turh£n Bey’s music hall, suspecting him of some connexion with her brother’s disappearance. Bey. who is having trouble with a gang led by Alan Curtis, at first wishes that she return home. But they become attracted to each other, and the plot gains dramatic interest when she is told that Bey is the murderer of her brother.

Robert Lowery and Phyllis Brooks have the leading roles in “High Powered,” the added feature, which is a fast-moving film about high-riggers engaged in construction work.
