WRESTLING

M’CREADY BEATS BLOMFIELD

(P A.) WELLINGTON, May 23. Wrestling was resumed in Wellington to-night after the break caused by the war. The contestants were Earl McCready. of Canada. British Empire heavyweight champion, and “Lofty" Blomfield, heavy-weight champion of New Zealand. Blomfield secured a fall in the third round with a step-over toe-hold. It was not until the seventh round that McCready was able to draw level. Early in the seventh round Blomfield dealt out a series of heavy elbow jolts. McCready retaliated with elbow jolts, and dumped Blomfield repeatedly with halches and flying mares. He had Blomfield so dazed that he had no difficulty in securing a fall with a body press after the round had lasted 4min 15sec. Blomfield suffered such heavy punishment that he had to retire as soon as the eighth and last round started The referee crowned McCready the winner
