WOMAN DROWNED IN RIVER

An inquest into the death of Mrs Muriel Jessie Thiele, aged 38, of 38 Birdwood avenue, Beckenham, who was drowned in the Heathcote river on Tuesday night, or early yesterday morning, was opened yesterday before the Coroner (Mr H. P. Lawry). Mrs .Thiele’s body was found in the river near the intersection of Sandwich road and Eastern terrace. Her bicycle, on which she had ridden to a card party during the evening, was found beside her in the river. The chain was broken and it is thought that the bicycle became out of control when Mrs Thiele tried to stop on the steep gradient from Sandwich road to Eastern terrace. Mrs Thiele is survived by her husband and three children. The Inquest was adjourned after identification had been established.
