GUILTY OF BIGAMY

PRISONER REMANDED FOR SENTENCE

James Henry McCarthy (Mr J. K. Moloney) pleaded guilty to a charge of bigamy when he appeared in the Supreme Court before Mr Justice Fair yesterday. The charge, to which the prisoner had pleaded not guilty in the Magistrate’s Court, was that on April 23, 1945, at Palmerston North, having been married to Noellne Bennett at the Christchurch Registry Office on May 20, 1943, he went through a form of marriage with Audrey Irene Jepson. Mr Moloney said that for some time the accused had been under medical observation.

In remanding the accused for sentence, his Honour said that sentence would be imposed as soon as a report on the prisoner’s condition was available.
