MORE FOOD FOR BRITAIN

RESOLUTION BY CHURCH GROUP

A unanimous decision to urge the Government to adopt a rationing scheme for the next three months, by which everyone would contribute extra food for Britain, was made by the St. Mary’s Church, Merivale, Men’s Group after an address had been given by Mr F. E. S. Long, general secretary of the Young Men’s Christian Association in Christchurch. In his address Mr Long referred to some of his experiences as a prisoner of war, and stressed the self-sacrificing efforts made by many British prisoners to help New Zealanders. Hopes were expressed at the meeting that other organisations would take the matter up quickly and make a united citizens’ effort to show the Government that it was the desire of the vast majority of the community to assist Britain in her time of need.
