Wellington Tramway Steff.—Wellington proposes to import 50 men to relieve its tramways staff shortage. Answering criticism that the work did not give a fair living, the Mayor (Mr Will Appleton) said the latest figures available for the financial year ended March 21, 1945, showed that the highest earnings were £515 a year and £!' 18s Id a week for motormen, £514 anc £9 17s 8d for bus drivers, and £499 and £9 Us lid for conductors. 'Hie lowest were £352 and £6 15s 4d for motormen, £385 and £7 8s Id for bus drivers, £276 and £5 6s Id for conductors. All the figures included overtime. —(P.A.) .. ,
