GRADUATES OF UNIVERSITY
CAPPING CEREMONY AT CIVIC THEATRE
Breaking with tradition this year, the Canterbury University College will hold its capping ceremony in the Civic Theatre instead of in the College Hall. The reason for the change is to provide more room for those who wish to attend the ceremony. At 2.15 p.m. on Thursday a procession of 120 graduands and staff, all in academic dress, will march from the college, along Worcester street and through the Square to the theatre in Manchester street.
The capping ceremony will be open to the public, who will be admitted to the main body of the theatre, the gallery being reserved for relatives and friends of the graduates. The principal address will be given by Mr J. T. Burrows, M.A., a graduate of the college, and now rector of Waitaki Boy§’ High School. After the ceremony, the graduates of the year, their guests and members of the university staff, will be entertained to tea in the College Hall.
