SCIENTIST HELD BY POLICE
REPORT FROM OTTAWA (Rec. 8 P.m.) OTTAWA. March 7. The "Montreal Herald” publishes a stoty from Ottawa which says: "Another man of science, reported to be an internationally known professor at Queen's University, is being held incommunicado by the police. He was taken in custody at Kingston and at present is in Stanley barracks with others detained in the Soviet espionage inquiry. He, like the others, has no legal counsel.
“It is how revealed that he Was one of those detained who staged a threeday hunger strike in an attempt to get counsel. He has seen hl® Wife, who has engaged counsel, but he cannot get beyond the outer gateway of the barracks.
Steamer on Sands Near Cromer.— The steamer Corrrcst <2373 tons) run ashore on Halsbro Sands. 13 miles cast of Cromer, before dawn to-day. The Cromer lifeboat fought through heavy seas and took off the crew of 23. as the ship began breaking up.—London, March 7.
