SEED-TESTING STATION
♦— LOCATION NOT TOBE CHANGED (P.A.) WELLINGTON, March 8. “Serious consideration has been given to the location of the Agriculture Department’s seed statioh, and after a review of all the salient features. it has been decided that it must remain at Palmerston North,” states the Minister of Agriculture (the Hon. B. Roberts). . ' . “While the station is admittedly net located in the seed producing centre of New Zealand, it serves the mer chants and farmers in both he said. “With modern mail transnwt South Island samples are received at Palmerston North only a few hours later than it would be received in Christchurch. . .. . “The seed trade has materially increased in recent years, and a highlytrained staff is essential to the station. Most of the present ptaff are residents of Palmerston North, and if the station were moved the majority would resign.” f To cope with the growing demand for service expected from the seed testing station, immediate steps were being taken, he said, to give improvefl facilities, and South Island seed merchants and farmers could rest assured that their requirements would be met.
