N.Z. WOMEN’S TOURNEY
TWO CHAMPIONSHIPS TO MANAWATU
Manawatu won the senior and B grade women’s baseball championships, whicn were continued yesterday. Canterbury won the junior championship. The South Island team to play the North Island has been selected as follows: V. Dodd (captain), W. Dodd. M. Miles, U. Treweek, E. Jenkins, M. Bennett, E. Smedley. T. Pohio, V. Fleury, I. Eckhold, M. Watts, S. Treweek, and E. Pile.
The combined junior team selected to meet the B grade winners, Manawatu, is: J. Dwyer, I. Hobson (captain), O. Mitchell. B. Newey. N. Hore, S. Williams (Canterbury), J. Calder, J. Benfell, E. Skinner, V. Thomson, J. Sims, and M. Brooks (Otago).
An exhibition of the finer points of the game was given in an exciting game between Manawatu and Canterbury, Manawatu winning. Otago pushed the championship winners even harder. A mistake by Canterbuy cost it the B grade championship, Manawatu winning by one run. Later the improving Southland team defeated the champions. Results:—
