BOARD OF GOVERNORS ELECTED
Negotiations have been completed by the Presbyterian Church for the purchase of Rangi-ruru Girls’ School as a going concern. The new board of governors. appointed by the Presbytery, will take over the school as from the beginning of the second term, and it is hoped that by that date the board will be able to pay cash for all existing assets It will be necessary however. to proceed immediately with the building of a home science block and a science laboratory, as these are necessary to enable the school to take advantage of the system of accrediting for matriculation. Certain renovations and alterations are also necessary, and the new board is faced with a building programme which will cost about £lO.OOO.
In taking over the school the Presbyterian Church will maintain the high standard for which ft is known. It will be known as Rangi-ruru Presbyterian Girls’ School, and all pupils at the school will be permitted to attend the church of their own religious persuasion. With the provision of the new science laboratory and the home science block the school will have equipment equal to any in New Zealand.
The first board of governors has been elected as follows:—the Rev. J. Baird (chairman). Mr W. A. C. McDonald (vice-chairman). Mrs W McKay the Rev L. M. Rogers. Mr J. D Hutchison Mrs J. C. Pirrit. the Rev L. McMaster, Mr L. G. K. Steven. Mrs W Goss the Rev. T. W Armour. Mr A J Campbell Mrs P. E. Starr. Dr lan Fraser Mr H. V. Murray (Scargill) Mrs C W Anderson (Ashburton) Mr J. Tait and Mr D. S. Dodds Mrs J C. Pirrit and Mrs W. Goss are representatives of the Rangi-ruru Old Girls’ Association.
