OFFICIAL FORECASTS " The Press ” Special Service WELLINGTON, March 4. The weather forecast for Canterbury. Issued at 9 p.m. by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, and dealing with the 20 hours following the time of issue, is as follows: Situation: a depression east of the Chathams is moving away. An anticyclone covers the Tasman Sea. Forecast to 5 p.m.: moderate to fresh southerly winds. Weather cloudy and ccol. with some showers about and north of Banks Peninsula. WEST COAST The forecast for the West Coast of the South Island is:— Moderate variable winds. Weather fair and mild. CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER The weather in Christchurch yesterday was cold and overcast with occasional rain. The maximum temperature during the day was 55.3 degrees. There was a fresh south-westerly wind. At 1 o’clock this morning the sky was overcast and the wind was a light south-westerly. The barometer at 30.12 inches (1020.0 millibars) was steady.
