SPECIAL TASMAN FLIGHT

AUSTRALIAN COMPANY’S SKYMASTER

MELBOURNE TO AUCKLAND, VIA SYDNEY (P.A.) AUCKLAND, March, 3. Making a special flight to New Zealand from Australia, the Australian National Airways Skymaster Amana arrived at Whenuapai shortly before 6 o’clock to-night, and established a new commercial aircraft record for the Tasman crossing by carrying 41 passengers and an augmented crew of 10 from Melbourne to Auckland in nine hours 10 minutes. The Amana took off from Melbourne at 6 a.m. and flew to Sydney first. The time for the Tasman flight was 6 hours 40 minutes against a strong head wind. The Amana, which also carried 50001 b of freight, is expected to fly on to Ohakea. It will return with passengers to Australia on Wednesday. Captain Ivan Holyman, managing director of Australian National Airways, is among the passengers for Wellington.
