♦ MASTER’S CERTIFICATE RETURNED (P.A.) WELLINGTON, February 28. The magisterial inquiry into the beaching_ of the Karepo on January 22 on the Steeples Rocks at Cape Foulwind concluded to-day. While the Court reserved its decision concerning the actual cause of the mishap the chairman (Mr A. M. Goulding, S.M.) said it had much pleasure in handing back the certificates of the master, Captain James Beacham, and the second officer, Mr Bernard Edward Avery. The reputation of neither would suffer as a result of the inquiry. Mr Goulding commended both Mr Avery and Desmond George Long, an able seaman, on the initiative they displayed during the accident
