SERVICE RIBBONS
Sir,—I have read letters on service ribbons, but nothing seems to have come of the complaints. I, too, want to complain of the way ribbons are issued. My husband went in the 2nd Echelon, and served through every campaign. (Only one other in his battalion did that.) What did he get? The Africa Star. Yes, that is all right. But others who stayed at base and never saw any enemy or a gun shot also received the Africa Star. What a farce it is! What of Greece and Crete? If ever a medal was deserved in this war, it was for those men who fought so hard there.—Yours, etc., NEVER AGAIN. February 4, 1946. The Hon. F. Jones. Minister of Defence, writes: “The Africa. Pacific, and Italy Stars are awarded to those members of the armed forces who entered into certain defined operational areas. The 1939-45 Star is granted for six months’ operational service or for service in certain special operations; Greece and Crete are included in the latter. "Your correspondent’s husband, if he served through every campaign of the 2nd Division, .would be entitled to the award of the 1939-45, Africa, and Italy Stars.” ...
