—.—♦ Township Threatened OTHER OUTBREAKS QUIET (P.A.) AUCKLAND, February 12. A telephone message from Taupo tonight said that a fire in broom and scrub near the township had broken into fresh activity. There is no semblance of a firebreak between the fire and Nukuhau pa, and even Taupo is only protected by the river, which is really no barrier. . . AU other fires in the area are quiet. Twelve police have gone from Auckland to assist. As a further precaution.against tne fire danger, the inspector of police at Rotorua issued a proclamation this afternoon prohibiting the use of all cars equipped with gas producers in the Rotorua and the Taupo Counties until further notice. The message was sent to the headquarters of the Auckland police, with a request that the proclamation be forwarded to the broadcasting authorities m Auckland for transmission over the air. A telephone Report received from Taumarunui at noon to-day was that there were considerable fires towards the western side of Taupo, but no reports had come to hand of any major damage in the Tokaanu district. The fires there Were all in worked-out bush areas where the threat was mainly to stacks of fencing posts, which had been cut after the milling timber was worked out. Some of these posts had been destroyed, but the majority was saved. Mill hands had been working long hours on their removal and bulldozers were used to assist in clearing tracks for carting them out of the area.
