CHRISTIAN SCIENCE
* ADDRESS BY MR PETER BIGGINS
To-day there was a pressing demand for practical Christianity and men and women, finding themselves in unforeseen situations, were turning to God for help, said Mr Peter B. Biggins, C. 5.8., of Seattle, Washington, in a lecture on Christian Science yesterday. “While on one hand there is much that may occasion us grave consideration, on the other we see'in recent times a widespread quickening of interest in spiritual things,” he said. “This is gratifying, and it augurs well for the happiness and prosperity of humanity. “Mary Baker Eddy, the discoverer and founder of Christian science, tells how we may use this harmony which Christ Jesus utilised. Her teaching >s simple, direct, effective. Christian science enables us to prove that spiritual power is supreme. It reveals the fact that God, the divine Principle of being, is perfect, and that man always has ’ en and always will be God’s perfect image and likeness. It offers to us the practical means whereby we may apply spiritual law to the details of our workaday lives. It affords the method whereby, day by day, we may improve our human activities by contemplating the fact of unchanging perfection. It provides a definite, scientific way to gain and preserve health by depending On spiritual truth. It is, in short, the restoration of the method which Jesus taught and practised.
“Science and health have prized to be a priceless aid to a large, number of people in overcoming difficulties. It shows us how to think from <ne standpoint of truth, spiritual reality. Presenting aj it does important basic facts, it leaves each one free to utilise these truths in accordance with well-defined rules, as suited to the individual need. “Whatever the problem or difficulty may be, whether it be one of sickness, sin, or lack, whether it be individual or national, the victory is won through obedience to the law of God. At last, through the revelation of Christian science, the application of the divine law to every human need can be made with scientific certainty. It rests with each one of us to; learn this law, and stain •■’xoerience in -its application,” said Mr Biggins.
