CHRISTCHURCH BRANCH In the absence of the president, Mrs C. W. Barrell, through illness, Mrs J. Lorimer presided over the monthly meeting of the Christchurch branch of the National Council of Women. Mrs G. H. Watts reported on the meetings held by the newly-formed Friends of the Hospital organisation, which was sponsored by the branch. Mrs Watts was thanked for the work she and her committee had carried out in connexion with the entertainment of Mrs G. Carpenter. Mrs N. Bankes was appointed acting-convener of the wages and pensions committee. Mrs J. R. Hervey, the branch’s representative on the local branch of CORSO, made an appeal to members and friends for fats, which should be left at the office of the Zealandia Soap„ Company, and which the company would without charge use for soap to be sent to Eng land. She also appealed for unuse food ration coupons. Miss Chapmen was appointed to edit the Christchurch news in the National Council of Women’s bulletin. Branches were asked to make a special study of immigration.
