CANTERBURY BEATS OTAGO

WOMEN’S REPRESENTATIVE MATCH

The Canterbury women’s representative cricket team had little difficulty in re* talning the Johnstone-Halliburton CUi> on Saturday, defeating Otago in the final challenge match of the season by an innings and 161 runs. On the first day Canterbury had scored 314 and Oago had lost two wickets for 16. When the innings was continued on Saturday, the Otago side could. make little progress against the steady medium-paced bowling of P. Blackler and the left-hand, slowmedium bowling of V. Russell, and was all out for 87. Following on, they were dismissed for 66, V. Garland with 24 being only one to bat confidently. This timte Russell did most of the damage, and she was assisted by'good fielding. Nearly all the other bowlers were very inexpensive, and Otago was well beaten by a much better side.
