SECOND DAY AT TRENTHAM HIGHEST PRICE 3000 GUINEAS WELLINGTON, January 21. The second day of the national yearling sales held at Trentham to-day again attracted widespread interest. Although bidding was not as animated as on the first day, the sale was generally considered very successful, with some high prices again ruling. In all, 89 lots were sold tor an aggregate of 50,930 guineas, and at an average of 577 guineas, compared with slightly over 600 guineas on the first day. For the two days 185 lots were sold for an aggregate of 108,900 guineas or an average of close on 581 guineas, the highest average ever recorded at Trentham. Two colts reached 3000 guineas to-day, a brown colt by Balloch from the English mare Anteroom, and a colt by Neptune from Lady Zephyr making that high figure. The former was secured by T. Impey, of Auckland, who was under the bidder for the record-price colt on the first day. No less than 13 yearlings—l2 colts and one filly—reached four figures to-day, and again several were secured for Australian owners. The highest price for a filly to-day was 1650 guineas, against 1600 guineas on the first,day. The best average was secured by the Alton Large stud, which sold 11 lots for 9365 guineas, at an average of 851 guineas. Sales of 200 guineas and over were made as follows:
