OFFICIAL FORECASTS I “ The Press ” Special Service WELLINGTON. January 8. The weather forecast for Canterbury issued at 9 p.m. by the Meteorological Office. Wellington, and dealing with the 20 hours following the time of issue, is as follows Zr— Situation: pressure is low to the south and east of the South Island. Forcast to 5 p.m.. Wednesday: moderate but variable winds. Weather fair to fine, but cloud increasing late tomorrow. Temperatures mild. WEST COAST The forecast for the West Coast of the South Island is:— South-westerly to westerly winds, freshening at times. Weather cool and changeable, with occasional showers. CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER The weather in Christchurch yesterday was fine and sunny with a north-westerly wind. The temperature in the afternoon rose to 73.1 degrees. At 1 o’clock this morning the sky was cloudy and there was a light north-westerly wind. The barometer at 29.65 inches (1004.1 millibars) was steady.
