OFFICIAL FORECASTS ~ The Press " Special Service WELLINGTON. January 7The weather forecast for Canterbury issued at 9 p.m. by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, and dealing with the 20 hours following the time of issue, is as follows:
Situation: a deep depression 'is centred just to the east. Forecast to 5 p.m. Tuesday: strong southerly winds. Weather overcast, with widespread .rain. Some heavy falls likely. Temperatures moderate. WEST COAST The forecast for the West Coast of the South Island is:—
Fresh to strong south-westerly winds. Cloudy, with occasional showers. Moderate temperatures.
CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER The weather in Christchurch yesterday was unpleasant, with rain and a strong north-easterly wind. Early in the afternoon there w r ere sharp showers. - At 1 a.m. the sky was cloudy and there was a light south-westeriy wind. The barometer at 29.45 inches (997.3 millibars) was steady.
