NEW ZEALAND TITLES TOURNAMENT
NO SURPRISES IN EARLY ROUND (P.A.) AUCKLAND, January 6. The New Zeaiauu tenuis championships commenced on Saturday at me Stanley street courts before nearly 2000 spectators A / high standard of play was witnessed in most events, and it is fully expected that this will be excelled as the tournament proceeds. There were no unexpected upsets in the first rounds, though several matches went the full five sets. A number of players who were unable to reach the courts in time for the opening day, including D. C. Coombe, en route from England, defaulted, as their matches were reached. Exceptionally good progress has been made, 67 of the 180 total contests having been decided. The weather was fine and warm. The courts were fast and true.
