VICTORY TOURNAMENT NEXT WEEK /

More than 1880 bowlers will take part in the victory tournament of the New Zealand Bowling Association, which will start in Christchurch next Tuesday. The official opening of the tournament will take place at the St. Albans green, where the president of the association (Mr A. Dickson) and the Deputy-Mayor (Mr M. E. Lyons) will officiate. In 1941 the Dominion tournament was held in Christchurch, and 856 entries were received. This year the entries are as follows:—singles, 832; pairs, 662; fours. 372. ' NEW YEAR TOURNAMENTS LINWOOD CLUB F. Spearman, of the R.S.A. Club, with six wins, won the Linwood Bowling Club’s New Year rinks tournament, which started on Tuesday and was concluded yesterday. Newell, Iggo, Puddle, Barnsdale, Peters, and D. Jones tied for second prize with five wins each. A prize for the highest aggregate score was won by D. Jones’s rink, wftich totalled 157 points. Canterbury Club The Canterbury Bowling Club received 26 entries for a rinks tournament which it held on New Year’s Day and yesterday. Six rounds were played, and at the conclusion Potter (Tauranga), who was skipping his four which will play in the Dominion tournament, and Floyd (Canterbury) were the only ones with six wins. To save a play-off, the skips agreed to divide the prize.
