STATIONS 3YA AND 3YL
Sir,—Having returned recently from overseas after five years, may I congratulate 3YA and 3YL for the care they have taken of their stock of gramophone records? They are still using the same items as in 1939. I suggest they take them all to the top of their highest radio tower and drop the lot and put on a decent p azgramme for once. I ask you to look up the programmes in your last Monday’s papers for those advertised for Christmas Day (especially 3YL). Surely something better could be found for this day. After all, it is supposed to be a season of rejoicing. They will no doubt put on a funeral march for New Year’s Day.—Yours, etc., TWENTY-FIVE SHILLINGS A YEAR. December 26, 1945.
[The importation of gramophone records had been severely restricted since the outbreak of war, said the station manager of 3YA (Mr J. Mackenzie) when this letter was referred to him. On Christmas Day 3YL had broadcast yft?••.•usual. Tuesday programme, and the same would apply on New Year’s Day, when the normal scheduled, programme would be broadcast.]
