BRITISH FORCE FOR JAPAN
N.Z. TROOPS GOING TO HIROSHIMA (Rec. 11.30 p.m.) NEW YORK, Jan.L According to the Hiroshima correspondent of the New York “HeraldTribune,” two brigades of British troops, including New Zealanders, Australians, and Indians, will occnpy Hiroshima in January or early in February. They will use the nearly Sure naval base to bring in their own Supplies. “The British occupation will release 10,000 to 12,000 Americans from Occupation duties,” says the correspondent. “Hiroshima is still a ghost city, where scarcely stone stands upon stone. The authorities have done nothing {to reconstruct it, except to make plans upon paper that will not be ready for at least six months. 'The Mayor of Hiroshima told a party of journalists that the Americans should rebuild Hiroshima, ‘because we were sacrificed to end the war.’ When asked if the Japanese would rebuild Manila, the Mayor replied. ‘How interesting’.”
