LYTTELTON NEWS

THE HOLIDAY Although no rain fell at Lyttelton yesterday, a cold south-westerly wind marred the holiday to a large extent, only a few hundred holiday-makers travelling to the port. The attendance at the Diamond Harbour gala was disappointing. The committee had provided an attractive programme of sports, and many well stocked stalls, music being provided by the Lyttelton Marine Band. Only about 700 persons crossed to Diamond Harbour by launch, as compared with 1800 at the gala last year. . Campers about the harbour and on Banks Peninsula had a particularly trying time during the wet weather of the last week, and a number of them struck camp earlier than intended and returned to their homes.
