PRISONER ESCAPES
(P.A.) AUCKLAND. December 14. While being escorted by police from Taumarunui. to Auckland, a prisoner escaped from the Wellinston express at Mercer at 6.15 a.m. He was Patrick Mcßae, aged 24. a labourer. Shortly before the express reached Mercer, Mcßae asked to be allowed to go for a drink of water ' A constable escorted him. but at the end of the carriage the door slammed between them and when the ’or.stable opened it the prisoner had disappeared. He apparently jumped from the train as speed on s nnroaching the trace of Mcßae could be «ound diirn» a the locality.
