SUMMER DOG SHOW
ASHBURTON FANCIERS’ SOCIETY An outbreak ot distemper among exhibits from Christchurch caused the entries in the Ashburton Fanciers' Society’s summer dog show which was held on Saturday, to drop more than 20 below the figures for the last show. However, the standard of exhibits was high There was a fair attendance of the public. Officials were:—judge of all breeds: Mr J McDonald (Timaru); veterinary examiner, Mr W Smith; assistant examiner. Mrs M G Richards; ring steward, Mr W Smith; assistant stewards.' Mr R. D. Jennings and Miss L Greig; show man' ager, Mr A Tate: assistant secretary (kennel section), Mrs C. L Rfdgen; secretary and treasurer, Mr R. H. Mr S F Storey exhibited the best dog in the show, a smooth-haired fox ♦errler. while the best animal of the opposite sex, a cocker spaniel bitch, was shown by Mrs N Hart. Special prizes awarded were:—best maiden and smooth-coated sheep dog. Miss S Lowery; rough-coated sheep dog. Miss G Napier: wire-haired terrier, junior (Tekau Cup), and open (Aynsley Cup), Mrs S F Storey: Pekinese, Mrs C. L. Ridgen; best toy dog. Mrs Ridgen; best terrier, Mr S. F Storey: best sporting dog, A I C , McKlllop; best non-sporting dog. Miss L. Greig; best puppy, any breed, G Toneycliffe: best exhibit by woman owner Mrs C. L. Ridgen During the afternoon a parade of children’s pets was held, the following being the prize-winners:—ponies: P. Ireland 1, J. Storier 2; dogs, M. Klrcher 1, R. Renner 2: cats, N Adams 1. E. Moflarty 2, A. Hawke 3.
