GOVERNMENT CALLS FOB APPLICATIONS The establishment of a small-scale New Zealand diplomatic service is-in* dicated in the Government's recent decision to invite applications from out* side the Public Service for a limited number of appointments to the Department of External Affairs. Successful applicants will be eligible for probationary appointment as third -or second secretary (diplomatic), according to age. qualifications, and experience. Salaries will be up to £#» accordingly. . Applications for these posts closed « the end of last month. A very mgft level of ability and general education is required of apDlicants, who roust, 0 ?, between 21 and 35 years of age. Tney are required to have knowledge or some of the following subjects, an<*. in : terests in all of them:—New Zealand affairs, history, economics, political institutions, international relations, and foreign affairs. Preference will »e given to servicemen or returned servicemen who comply with these requirements. '
