WARMEST NOVEMBER ON RECORD
* HIGH MEAN TEMPERATURE November was an exceptionally warm, dry, and sunny month,Smd was th: warmest November on record, agcording to figures supplied by the Magnetic Observatory, Christchurch. The mean temperature of 59.6 degrees Fahrenheit was 3.6 degrees more than the average for November. On November 26 the maximum temperature reached 87.2 degrees, which was the second hottest day ever recorded for that month. Earth temperatures at one and three feet were also warmer than usual. Rain fell on two days only for a total of .30 inches. This I was the lowest ever recorded at the ; observatory in November. There were 239 hours of sunshine compared with the average of 207.6 hours. Observations taken were:—barometer: mean for month, 29.805 in; highest reading (on November 18). 30.209 in; lowest reading (on November 22), 29.352 in. Temperature in shademean for month, 59.60 deg. F.; highest reading (on November 26), 87.2 deg F.; lowest reading (on November 1), 38.5 deg. F. Temperature exposed: mean minimum on grass, 40.08 deg. F.; lowest reading (on November 11), 28.9 deg. F. Moisture: mean daily amount of cloud (0-10), 5.9; total rainfall. 0.30 in; number of rainy days. 2; heaviest fall (on November 22). 0.28 in Earth temperatures: at a depth of Ift, 62.60 deg. F.; at a depth of 3ft. 58.13 deg F.at a depth of sft, 54.32 deg. F. Sunshine: total amount of sunshine, 238.0 hours; mean daily amount, 8.0 hours.
