TWO TEAMS WIN ON FIRST INNINGS RAIN INTERFERES WITH PLAY For the first'time this season rain interfered with play when the Canterbury Cricket Association's s-mior competition was continued on Satu.-day.* The games began in light rain, which gradually grew heavier, and at «agley Park. little more than half an hour's play was possible. At Sydenham Park the match stopped shortly after. 3! p.m., but "at Lancaster Park; East Christchurch and West Old Boys carried on in what was at times heavy rain, until 4.20 p.m. The only two results reached were in the Technical Old Boys-St. Albans match, in which Technical had established a first innings lead on the previous day, and in the East ChristchurchWest Old Boys game, which East won easily on the first innings. In the drawn games, each side scored three points. The competition points after three rounds are:—Riccarton 19, Lancaster Park 16, Sydenham 16, Old Collegians 13, East Christchurch 11, St. Albans 6, West Old Boys 5, West Christchurch 5. High School Old Boys 5, and Technical Old Boys 5. East Christchurch's. performance in getting West Old Boys out for 76 was a most meritorious one. Admittedly, West Old Boys had lost three wickets for 24 on the first day, but in the conditions obtaining on Saturday, it was expected that the handicap of the extremely wet ball would be too much for any bowling side. However, East. Christchurch attacked with zest, and with the West Old Boys batsmen falling into lamentable errors, obtained a very efty- first innings win West Old Boys' batting was disappointing, the side being' capable ot better things, but nevertheless, the determined attack of M. Lohrey, M. C. Marshall, and, when West Old Boys followed on, A. H. Riddolls. deserves every credit Lohrey did not bowl at top speed, naturally enough, but was very accurate, a? was Marshall Lohrey and D White held two very good catches,-the East Christchurch fielding, considering the slippery surface, being good When West Old Boys followed on, a second procession began, and only heavier rain and the consequent cessation of play saved them from almost certain outright loss.

Sydenham, batting against Old Collegians found runs difficult to get and wickets easy to lose. R. C. Saunders bowled accurately, and Denham, who took three cheap wickets, turned the ball appreciably. The game was abandoned after seven consecutive maiden overs and a heavy shower.

Riccarton scored freely against Old Boys, F. Dawson and R. Cullen making their partnership worth 50 }n 40 minutes. Dawson played some nice shots on the off side in getting to 30 before play finished Cullen hit across the spin of a ball from R. F. Cook and was well caught by Leggat for 28.

Lancaster Park lost a third wicket early against West. Christchurch, but G. Dryden, partnered by R. C. Shand, batted briskly and the score was taken to 7!) before the-game was abandoned. Technical, batting again against St. Albans lost two wickets for 41. F. Wise, who scored 49 in the first innings, was 20 not out.
