POPULATION FIGURES
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, November 28. The following census return was issued to-day:
Counties I 1945. 1936. J Waikato .. 14,315 11,877 Eden (remainder) 1,378 1,089 In the Eden County the operation of the Counties Act is suspended. The three road districts of Mount Roskill. Mount Wellington, and Panmure township comprise the bulk of the county. The population of these was included in preceding statements. Provisional totals have now been issued for every county, city, borough or town district in New Zealand. The addition of three further groups is necessary, the population on shipboard, populations on adjacent islands not being parts of counties, boroughs, etc., and the population rn night trains. In 1936 the oopulation on shipboard "unibered 4699, and on adjacent islands I 1313. These figures are not specially telegraphed to Wellington, and it may be a week or more before the figures are available. The principal adjacent: island is Waiheke, the figures for which I have already been published. Persons I enumerated on night trains numbered! 1139 in 1945. These have not yet been allocated to their usual place of residence.
