AMERY PLEADS GUILTY
DEATH SENTENCE FOR TREASON
HEARING LASTS EIGHT MINUTES * (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (R ec. 1 a.m.) LONDON, Nov 28 John Amery, aged 33, pleaded guilty to charges of high treason and treachery when he appeared in the High court of Justice this morning. He was sentenced to death eight minutes after pleading. Amery was accused of broadcasting lor the Germans during the war and of trying to enlist British subjects to fight against the Russians. _ Mr Justice Humphreys, after counsel tor the defence had given an assurance that Amery understood the consequences of his plea, addressed the prisoner as follows: "You now stand a self-confessed traitor .to your countrv Hve" y ° U 6 forfeited y° ur right to Sentence of death was then passed.
