DEATH OF FISHERMAN
♦ Warning of the danger of wearing thigh boots when entering a river or when boating was given by the Coroner, Mr Raymond Ferner, at an inquest yesterday into the death of Leslie Henry Jolly, a married man of 35, with three children, of Brooklands. William Clarence Washington said he •was fishing for whitebait in the Styx river on October 3, and he saw a man he now knew to be Jolly in a boat about 200 yards away. Later he noticed an oilskin coat in the river, and then found the body of Jolly. Constable J. Thompson, of Belfast, said he had examined the net used by Jolly, and had found that the small end sfx^ e net was badly ripped. In its condition it would not hold whitebait. He presumed that the net had become Caught and that Jolly had waded out in the-river to free it and had fallen into a deep hole. He was wearing thigh .gumboots, an oilskin overcoat, and other clothing. j Coroner returned a verdict of ceath by asphyxia through accidental while fishing for whitebait, ' *Sr« « d * a r i der dr awing strong at- • }Erti 0 J l J i l t th * dai i? er of boating or enWring a river in thigh boots.
