Between 80 and 90 per cent, of the stone fruit crop in Marlborough has .been destroyed, and 20 per cent, of the district's apple crop ruined by a series oi severe frosts experienced at Marlborough recently, according bo Mr S. Frew, an orchard instructor, who inspected the commercial orchards. The cherry crop, of which half was saved, would have been completely lost had it not been for the efforts of the growers in maintaining fire-pots throughout the period of the frosts, because where the fire-pots were not requisitioned the stone fruit crop was completely wiped out. Several crops of peas were ruined, arid it is-be-lieved that not one walnut tree escaped damage.
