SOUTH ISLAND CHAMPIONSHIP CANTERBURY RIDERS COMPETE (P.A.) INVERCARGILL, Sept. 23. The South Island 50 miles road cycling championship at Invercargill yesterday was won by K. McDonald (9Jmln), of Invercargill, with W. J. Bowden (Christchurch), off scratch, gaining fastest time, 2hr 14mln 50sec. The race was run in good conditions, but there were several mishaps. Invercargill riders scooped the pool In placings, McDonald being followed home by L. Gross! (18min), with W. Young OJmin) third, and L. Tall (91 min) fourth. W. Young registered fastest time, 2hr 19min 30sec. for a junior, Bowden and Nicholson (Christchurch), and Beer (Invercargill), all scratch men, finished seventh, eighth, and ninth respectively.
