INQUESTS HELD
_♦ The death of a boy aged seven, Franklin James Nixon, was investigated at an inquest opened before the Coroner (Mr I Raymond Femer) yesterday. Arthur George Williams said that on August 10 he was driving a motor-car east along Ferry road. Near the Woolston Hotel, Nixon, who was standing on the footpath on the north side of the road, put his head down and ran out from the footpath. He appeared to hit the back I of his head on the left hand door handle, which was broken. I In returning a verdict of death from injuries received when struck by a motorcar, the Coroner said that on the evidence it did not appear that there was any blame attachable to the driver of the vehicle. A verdict of death from shock following burns sustained accidentally when attempting to quench a fire in his house was given in the inquest into the death on August 11, of Albert Thomas Norman, aged 38. A finding that death was caused by accidental drowning was made by the Coroner, in the inquest into the death on August 23. of Richard John Gillooly. aged two. Evidence was given that the child had been missed by his mother, and had been recovered from the Waimairi stream (which flowed past his home), some distance downstream. Verdicts of death ‘by natural causes, in accordance with the medical evidence given, were returned in the following inquests:—Thomas Watson, aged 66: George Rene de la Roche, aged 63; and Norcombe Louis Marquet, aged 59.
