FACTORY CONTROLS REVOKED

PAINT, NEWSPRINT, LINSEED OIL (From Our Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, September 20. The revocation of more factory controls was announced by the Minister of Supply (the Hon. D. G. Sullivan) this evening. Of most general interest is the revocation of the paint control notice, except for six items used in the manufacture of synthetic lacquers. This means that motorists will be able to obtain synthetic enamels for the repainting of cars, but not in the meantime synthetic lacquers. Another control revoked is that restricting the amount of newsprint which may be used in newspapers and periodicals. However this does not mean freedom for newspapers to print issues of any size, because imports are restricted by the import licensing system and because of supply difficulties. The notice limiting the size and type of glass containers that could be manufactured has also been lifted, as has tjie linseed oil control. The latter was imposed when it was necessary that local stocks and supplies should be conserved to meet the heavy demand for service requirements and essential civilian work. During recent months there has been considerable relaxation of this control. Finally the control of gas producer manufacture has been lifted. It was introduced as a protective measure to ensure that gas producers manufactured were of efficient type. “Of the original 44 control notices administered by the Factory Controller only 11 are still in operation," commented the Minister. “These include those over such critical commodities as bicycle tyres and tubes, rubber, and kapoc. and these are under constant review.”
