DETAILS OF NEW AIRCRAFT

VAMPIRE JET-PLANE AND HORNET I

(Rec.- 12.5 a.m.) LONDON, Sept 19. The Ministry of Aircraft Production has revealed some details of the Vampire jet-propelled plane and the Hornet I, which is largely of wooden construction. The Vampire is a twin-boom, singleseater plane powered with a single de Havilland Goblin engine. It has a speed of more than 500 miles an hour. It is all metal, with a wingspan ot 40 feet and a length of 30 feet 6 inches. The Hornet I is a single-seater, powered with two Rolls-Royce Merlin engines with contra rotating propellers. ' It has a wingspan ot 45 feet, a length of 34 feet 6 inches, a speed of 470 miles an hour, a range of 2500 miles, and a “ceiling” of 35,000 feet. It carries four 20 millimetre cannon.
