YESTERDAY IN THE HOUSE

—— (From Our Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, September 19. It was a quiet day in the House of Representatives to-day, the afternoon being spent on discussion of Ministers’ replies t!o questions, and the evening on the second reading of the Housing Improvement Bill. The indications were that the second reading would be carried before the House rose, but the discussion dragged on and the debate had to be adjourned. The Acting-Leader of the House (the Hon. W. Nash) indicated that the second reading of this bill would be finished before the House turned its attention to departmental estimates tomorrow. Estimates would be taken as usual on Friday. Mr Nash made a statement this afternoon on the census. He explained that it differed very little from previous censuses, and assured members that all information was confidential to the Census and Statistics Department
