RETURNED SERVICES’ ASSOCIATION
“NOT THE VOICE OF THE KIWI” (P.A.) WELLINGTON, July 31. Saying that the Returned Services* Association was not the voice of the Kiwi, Mr E. L. Thwaites, president of the 2nd N.Z.E.F. Association, made some criticism of the former body when speaking at the first annual conference in Wellington to-day. Some people might have wondered why the conference wAs held so soon after the conference of the Returned Services’ Association, he said. “After all, this war was fought by the Kiwis, and it is unfortunate that at the conference just held it was not the voice of the Kiwi which was heard. We are gathered to discuss matters which vitally concern us. Far too much publicity' has been given to minor matters, and so far as soldiers’ views are given to the public on these matters they do not represent the opinion of the Kiwi. We note with pleasure the subsidising of men of the last war by gifts of cash to the Returned Services’ Association and confidently anticipate gifts of a similar nature to the Kiwis.”
