CRIPPLED CHILDREN SOCIETY
INCREASED MEMBERSHIP reported For the first time the membership Cf the Canterbury and Westland branch of the New Zealand Crippled Children Society reached and passed 1000, stated the annual report of the president (Dr J Leslie Will*. The membership stood at 1022, compared with 984 last year. New ’ registrations during the year ended March 31 totalled 71. There had been 32 cures and 48 children had been transferred or withdrawn from the register during the year, making a total registration of 512. During the year 86 children were helped financially by subsidies on wages, assistance with board andlodging, the gift or loan of chairs, or by the provision of surgical equipment and footwear. . The financial statement showed, that the slight improvement in receipts from annual subscriptions was more than offset by reductions m grants from the New Zealand Society and local bodies, and the income of the branch was £6O 13s lid less than in the previous year. The excess of expenditure over income totalled £l5O Us lOd.
