GERMANS BEING DEPORTED
CZECH CONTROL OF SUDETENLAND (Rec. 7 p.m.) ' LONDON, July 29. Two million sullen, resentful, but passive Germans are at present awaiting deportation from the rich industrial and agricultural territory of the Sudetenland, says Reuter’s correspondent in Prague. Apart from sporadic outrages the deportations are going on quietly. About 245,000 Germans have so far left, either as voluntary fugitives or as forced deportees. Czechs are rapidly returning to resume their old jobs and to take over the administration fr6m the Germans. They have the situation well in band in spite of the sullen hostility of a substantial majority of the population, most of whom are at present permitted to continue their work on farms, in the factories, and in mines. The Czech authorities have already rounded up war criminals, and cleared the Sudetenland of members of the German Nazi party and non-essential workers. However, the bulk deportation of the Sudetens awaits both the approval of the Big Three and the availability of large numbers of Czech workers to take the place of the Germans. The Czech attitude toward the Germans is stern and determined, and they are fully resolved to end once and for all the minority problem, adds the correspondent. He has seen no evidence of .harshness. 500,000 SLOVENES KILLED IN WAR (Rec. 7 p.m.) LONDON, July 29. During the war, the Germans were responsible for' the deaths of nearly 500.000 Slovenes, according to the Jugoslav Telegraphic Agency. Another 500.000 were forcibly driven from their homes, and 150,000 dwellings in Bosnia and Herzegovina were destroyed.
