BULK POWER PAYMENT
- ♦_— RECORD FOR JUNE QUARTER MAXIMUM DEMAND ON JULY 6 The payment of £67.272 for bulk Sower supply by the City Counci to je Public Works Department for the quarter ended June 30 was the largest ever made by the city, reported the electricity committee to last evening’s meeting of the council. The peak load on which this charge was *based (44,651 k.w.) occurred, on June 21, from 6 to 5.30 p.m. Since then a higher maximum had been recorded. It was 44,819 k.vv, which occurred in the same half-hour on July 5. The peak load last year was 39,885 k.w. . >
"A significant fact is that, as the cooking load has developed, the peak load period has tended to change from late afternoon to just before midday," reported the committee. A stage was reached when the tendency was for the two summer quarters to have morning peaks, and the two winter quarters afternoon peaks. The second winter quarter (July-September), is, however, showing a tendency to a morning peak. This results-from the fact that es soon as the evenings become lighter and the overlap of lighting and power does not take plaee in the late afternoon, the mormng peak tends to predominate, This may be considered either as a growing pain or as commendable maturity.
