U.S. PLANS FOR WAR
- DEFENCE PROGRAMME CONDEMNED (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright). (Rec. 9 p.m.) WASHINGTON, July 29. • The special Senate Committee which is investigating the national defence programme declared that' the Administration had failed so badly to prepare the nation adequately for the transition from war to peace that, should the Pacific war end soon, the United States would find itself in a sorry state economically. The report accused the War Department of using manpower wastefully, and of creating huge troop reserves which wore unusable in the Pacific except in the event of an almost disastrous military set-back.
