RIGHT OF WAY AT INTERSECTIONS
* RETURN TO OLD RULE ADVOCATED A return to the old rule of giving way to traffic approaching on the right at all times was advocated by Mr F. W Johnston in a report presented to the council of the Automobile Association (Canterbury) at a qieeting on Friday evening. The present rule of a car approaching on the right losing right of way when making a right-hand turn was very confusing, and was not understood by 95 per cent, of motorists The meeting decided that Mr John ston’s report be circulated to all members of the council and that a decision regarding further action be made at the next meeting. Petrol had been costing motorists in Hokitika ,3s 2Jd a gallon, said Mr W. F*f4jarle£ be reduced. to the correct price of 3s lid. An oil company had made application to the No. 3 Transport Licensing Authority for permission to run petrol tankers from Greymouth to Hokitika, but had been refused Petrol was being delivered to Hokitika in barrels, and this involved extra expense. An appeal to the Transport Appeal Authority had been successful, and the new rate would operate from Monday. It was agreed to request the South Island Motoi Union to approach the Government' to ask for a considerable increase in the present petrol allowance and the removal of the regulations governing the sale of petrol as soon as possible,
