MEAT FOR EXPORT GENERAL INCREASE IN KILLINGS New Zealand had a favourable season in the production of meat for export, says a statement from the New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board. Export killings at freezing works- up to June 30 showed that meat killed for export exceeded ttje total for the corresponding season last year by 35,000 tons.

Before the opening of the season encouragement was given to the production of heavier carcases. To this financial inducement was added the good effect of a favourable season, and farmers were able to maintain stock on pastures long enough to secure the heavier weights. The greatest advance was in beef production, the total of 855,000 quarters being double that of the previous season to the same date. Lambs showed an increase of 173,246 carcases, wether mutton 135,718 carcases, and ewe mutton 48,208 carcases. *
